OPTIC: Simple in design and unadorned, this vase has a smooth exterior and 14 subtle interior panels. Usually found in marigold, but a scarce amethyst is occasionally seen. Seen in a 1929 Butler Bros. Wholesale Catalog. Few of these vases surface, but production is placed in the Diamond era of vases.

PANELED: This six-panel vase is also seen in a 1929 Wholesale Ad (golden iridescent). This #1013-R vase was apparently produced in white, as we see described in the Diamond Vase ad calling for Pearl Iris.

SPIRALEX: This design appears in a 1907 Dugan factory catalog, offered in blue, green and flint opalescent, as well as crystal with ruby stained ribs. It was listed as Dugan's #1028. Wholesale catalogs from 1910 through the early `20s, carried this vase in the carnival version, spanning both Dugan and Diamond production years. 8”-14” is the usual range of heights, with most examples being in the 9”-12” size range.

Marigold, amethyst, and even peach opalescent turn up with some frequency. White is somewhat more difficult to obtain, yet they cannot be considered as rare. Cobalt blue is another matter. That color is next to impossible to locate. Only a few examples are known.

PULLED LOOP: Is found only on vases of varying height. This pattern was made in non-iridized opalescent glass and appears in a 1907 Dugan factory catalog, given the number 1029. Later on, Diamond Glass Company ads gave it the number 1030. Carnival Glass versions appeared in wholesale catalogs from 1912 through 1928, so it had a long production run.

Marigold vases are easily located and peach opalescent examples run a close second. Amethyst and green will create a bit more search. All other colors are pretty evasive! Cobalt blue and white are quite scarce and only a few Celeste blue vases are known. (Click on ~

~ to view a Celeste vase.) A few rare aqua opal have been found but true to form for most Dugan/Diamond patterns found in this color, they require a great search! A single known amethyst opal vase is known, making that the rarest color in the pattern.

Most examples are found in the 9”-11” size range, but there are 5”-7” squat vases as well. Colors are more limited and these sizes are found much less frequently. Amethyst, peach opalescent, white, and amethyst opalescent are the recognized colors.

Fenton made a Boggy Bayou vase which has eight arched loops between the vertical ribs, whereas Pulled Loop offers five arched loops.

TARGET: Spanning both the Dugan and Diamond years of production, this must have been a very popular vase for the buying public! Non-iridized opalescent vases appeared in the 1907 Dugan factory catalog. Earliest documented Dugan carnival assortment appeared in the Mid-Spring 1909 Butler Brothers Wholesale Catalog. It continued to appear in sale ads through 1924. Sizes range from squat, widely flared, 5”-6” version, to a tall, 13”-14” swung version. ) It is # 1027 in the Diamond ad.

Marigold, peach opalescent, and white are the most available colors. The squat versions seem to appear more often in white. Amethyst vases don't seem too plentiful. Cobalt blue is rarely found. A few very rare green vases are known. Only one each in lime green opalescent and vaseline opalescent are known. They tie for top honors in rarest form! (You may click on ~

MANY RIBS: It is unusual to find one of these vases in an upright position. This pattern is usually found having flared, crimped, ruffled top edge, or a jack-in-the-pulpit effect which distorts the edge completely. We show this marigold vase to verify (according to the Diamond ad) that Many Ribs, Paneled and Optic vases in (golden iridescent) were in the Diamond line in 1929. This taller size is unusual. Most of these vases, following alteration of the top edge will be about 5”-7” in height. Sometimes they will be found in a hat shape of only 3 ½”-4” tall.

In addition to marigold, amethyst, oxblood, white, peach opalescent, peach opalescent on camphor glass, and cobalt blue are known colors.
