Millersburg - Part 13

BLACKBERRY WREATH:  As many questions surround the berry wreath patterns by Millersburg, as do those concerning the Peacocks variations. John W. Fenton demonstrated unique ability to expose the differences in berry structure by creating lovely examples of Blackberry Wreath, Blackberry Wreath Variant, Grape Wreath, Grape Wreath Variant, the Strawberry Wreath and Grape Leaves. The square-shaped wreath composed of leaves and tendrils with berries extending toward the center is a feature found in all the various pattern examples. All wreath patterns offer the Wide Panel exterior pattern, excepting Grape Leaves. It offers an intaglio pattern named Mayflower on the exterior. That exterior design had been used in their crystal glass production.

The 6” sauce dish is found in amethyst, green and marigold—various shapes with varying edge treatments. More satin than radium examples are known. The 7” size if more rare. Two examples are known in blue. One is ice cream shape; the other is six ruffle.

8”-10” size bowls are known in amethyst, blue, green, and marigold. Shape can be round, tri-corner, and the large ice cream shape. Edges are six-ruffled, candy ribbon edge and three-and-one edge.

Flat plates in 6” size are rare. Perhaps a half dozen exist in amethyst and marigold. The only known 8” flat, green plate is a great example. The chop plate is found in two amethyst examples and only one marigold.

A single 7” rose bowl in marigold is known, with three spittoon whimsies, also in marigold.

Dean and Diane Fry

You shall not steal, nor deal falsely, nor lie to one another.
And you shall not swear by My name falsely, nor shall you profane the name of your God: I am the Lord.
You shall not cheat your neighbor, nor rob him.
The wages of him who is hired shall nor remain with you all night until morning.
You shall not curse the deaf, nor put a stumbling block before the blind, but shall fear your God: I am the Lord.
You shall do no injustice in judgment. You shall not be partial to the poor, nor honor the person of the mighty.
In righteousness you shall judge your neighbor: I am the Lord.
You shall not hate your brother in your heart. You shall surely rebuke your neighbor, and not bear sin because of him.
You shall not take vengeance, nor bear any grudge against the children of your people,
But you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord.
(Leviticus 19:11-18)
