RUSTIC #507 or HOBNAIL Vt. Vases
RUSTIC #507 or HOBNAIL Vt. Vases
Millersburg or Fenton
Controversial discussions have taken place over time, surrounding these vases found in amethyst, blue, green, marigold and white.
When John Lee wrote his article for the December 1997 issue of the San Diego County Carnival Glass Club Newsletter, he did not mention 10 ¾” as a height for the vase. The amethyst example shown beside the taller white vase is one we purchased from a Wroda Auction in May 2012. The 18 1/8” white example was purchased from a Christy Auction in Greenwood, IN in 2010.
Correspondence from Lee Markley was received as a result of having read John’s article.
Receipt of the December 1997 Newsletter prompted Frank M. Fenton to respond with more research into the subject, including the detailed mold drawing.
We decided that in correlating all this detailed information for display on the 101 site, many questions could be settled at long last.
You will find more information surrounding this (Hobnail vase) in Hobnail Variant Vase. Colors known: amethyst, blue, green, marigold and white. The base is 4 ¼” diameter. Since John Lee’s article mentions white as a very scarce element, we checked auction sales in recent years. Dave Doty records a single white sold in 2008 for $140. In 2010, two sold: $60. and $160. A single sale in 2011 brought $120. In March 2006, we paid $187. for our 18 1/8” white example.
In comparing the iridescence of the shorter vase with the taller versions, the pictures detail the shinier iridescence. The 10 ¾” amethyst vase is a good example of the early Millersburg use of satin finish. Mr. Fenton’s assessment that the same mold was later used for the Fenton #507 vases indicates logical marketing strategy.

When I say.........
When I say, “I am a Christian”
I’m not shouting, “I’ve been saved!”
I’m whispering, “I was lost!
That’s why I chose this way”.
When I say, “I am a Christian”
I don’t speak with human pride
I’m confessing that I stumble -
needing God to be my guide.
When I say, “I am a Christian”
I’m not trying to be strong
I’m professing that I’m weak
and need His strength to carry on.
When I say, “I am a Christian”
I’m not bragging of success
I’m admitting that I’ve failed
and cannot ever pay the debt.
When I say, “I am a Christian”
I don’t think I know it all
I admit to my confusion
calling His name when I start to fall.
When I say, “I am a Christian”
I’m not claiming to be perfect
My flaws are far too visible
but God believes I’m worth it.
When I say, “I am a Christian”
I still feel the sting of pain
I have my share of heartache
which is why I seek His name.
When I say, “I am a Christian”
I do not wish to judge
I have no authority
I only know I’m loved.
