Amethyst GRAPE & CABLE-PCE-8.75 in.(No Stippling.

GRAPE and CABLE Variant is generally considered to be the version having tendrils of the leaves around the center floating toward the middle. This is all well and good, so far as it goes. A more investigative look reveals that the spatula footed plate is not stippled, nor does it have the three lines surrounding the entire pattern area. Blue, green, marigold and sapphire blue can be found to have stippling. Amethyst, clambroth, green and marigold are not stippled. This amethyst pie crust edge bowl lacks the three lines, but has a distinct overall pattern!

GRAPE & CABLE Vt. in Sapphire. Stippled with 3 raised lines - 9 inch bowl.

Stippling is evident on these four bowls, but you will note the beautiful and complete flow of the three lines surrounding the pattern on the Ice Green bowl. We believe that makes for a much better and more collectible example!
One variant has tendrils of leaves around the center of the bowl and another variation displays a leaf in center.
Variant Bowls: Amethyst, aqua opal, blue, green, ice blue, lavender, marigold, smoke. Variant Plates: Amethyst, blue, clambroth, green, marigold, sapphire.

Ameth.10 in. G & C Bowl-Scarce Shape-Could  have been an IC Shaped bowl.
Amethyst 10 in. G & C Bowl - Scarce Shape -
Could  have been an IC Shaped bowl.

10” BOWL:  This shape is not seen very often. The large ice cream shaped bowls with collar base are made from this mold and seemingly are more desirable than a bowl of this particular shape. Amethyst is the most common color, but the shape of this piece, along with the nicely crimped edge is actually more unusual than had it become an ice cream shaped bowl.

GRAPE & CABLE Centerpiece Bowl-IB-Points Straight Up!
GRAPE & CABLE Centerpiece Bowl - IB - Points Straight Up!

CENTERPIECE Bowl:  These centerpiece bowls have points which turn inward, as do rose bowls. Other centerpiece bowls have points which flare straight up. These are more rare, but do not command premium prices, as a rule. Occasionally, over the years, a flattened (plate type) example reveals itself. For pattern collectors, this is not a “plus”, having the design on the underside!
Amethyst is the more common color. Green, marigold, and white are scarce colors. Ice green is a fairly common color. Ice blue is rare! Known colors having points straight up: green, ice green, ice blue, marigold and white.

BANANA Bowl (Cable):  This oblong bowl measures about 12 ½” in length and are not terribly difficult to locate. It is found in two styles. Most often seen is the one displaying the cable. Amethyst is found most often, followed in sequence by marigold, green and ice blue.  Ice green is seen fairly often. White is a scarce color. The two rarest colors are blue and pearlized custard.

BANANA Bowl (Banded): Aqua, blue, Renninger blue, green and marigold examples are known in this style.

Dean & Diane Fry, 1-11
I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser.
Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away;
and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit.
You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.
Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself,
unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.
I am the vine, you are the branches.  He who abides in Me, and I in him,
 bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.
If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered;
and they gather them and throw them into the fire,
and they are burned.
If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire,
And it shall be done for you.
By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.
(John 15:1-8)
