FOSTORIA – Part 7
An interesting aspect of this etched glass is the fact that some edges are touched with gold paint, while others are not. Perhaps it was a preference stated by the purchaser. Another known factor is that Central Glass produced this same type glassware. Perhaps they did not provide the gilt edges. We can tell you that both types are found in the Fostoria Museum. If any viewers have definite information surrounding the gilt-edge pieces, we would like to hear from you. It would be nice to know whether both manufacturers marketed the gilt-edge examples.

BROCADED BUCKEYES: Jim Wagner has a collection of some 200 pieces of Fostoria. This unusual handled tray would seem to be a “one-of-a-kind”, which he has owned for many years, having found it in southern Ohio where Yellow Buckeye trees grow along the Ohio-West Virginia border.
At first glance, the design appears to be cherries, but all things considered, the name Jim has applied to the tray seems appropriate.
Seems that if this piece had gone into production, there would have been more examples available? Could this be a “test piece”? Perhaps a “salesman’s sample” from which no orders were taken?
