IMPERIAL VASES - Part 5

474 Pedestal Footed Vases: Created in three sizes: 8”, 10”, 14”, we must declare each of them to be of rare status. A single example in red is known in the 8” vase. The only other color in that size is marigold; one of which brought nearly $1,000. in an eBay sale-July, 2008. The 10” vase is found in marigold, with the 14” known in marigold and purple. We saw our first purple vase in a June 2008 Convention display. We don't recall that one has ever been offered in any of the many carnival auctions around the Country.

FROSTED BLOCK: Imperial made more pedestal footed vases than any other American manufacturer. This 6” design is known in clambroth and smoke. Since large quantities of this pattern were exported to Central and South American countries, many items are found to have “MADE IN U.S.A." molded into the body of the piece above the lip of the collar base, indicating intent to export. The vase is seldom found in smoke color.

The purple vase with ruffled top is marked with IG, indicating reproduction between 1961-1972. The design was reproduced in pink carnival in 1978. They were marked with the LIG logo.

6 inch Purple PARLOR PANELS.

PARLOR PANELS: Squat vases, 4” in size are known in marigold, purple and smoke. All are quite scarce. 5”-7”, 8”-12”, 12”-14”, and a marigold 17” vase comprise the size ranges within this pattern. Honey amber is a unique color found in the 12-14” size. Helios of a very rich quality, tending toward emerald green is found in the 8” - 14” sizes on rare occasion. Purple, marigold and smoke are the most often found colors in any size vase.

STRETCH GLASS - Blown: Between 1904 and 1921 Imperial filed for patents on at least five different trademarks. Only three of those marks are found on glass today. NUCUT, NUART and the Imperial Iron Cross Mark. That Iron Cross is found on these examples within the Imperial Jewels stretch glass lines, such as this lovely purple blown vase.

SWIRLED MORNING GLORY Vase

- Smoke - 8 in. high.

SWIRLED MORNING GLORY: Miniature 3”-4 ½” Morning Glory vases, 5”-7” standard size vases, along with 8”-12” vases are seen less often than some of the other vase patterns, but it is the 7”-8” swirled version which can be termed downright scarce. These are known in marigold and smoke.

TWO-HANDLED Vases: One of the Imperial designs that bridges the gap between carnival glass and stretch glass. The original pattern name was Grecian. As you will note in looking at the examples shown here, some exhibit a stretch effect, while others offer a rich carnival luster. Then there are pieces which combine the two finishes. Jack-in-the-Pulpit shape and cone shape are found, but none of these vases could be described as “readily available”. The swirl shape in this vase is very scarce and available only in marigold and smoke. All shapes are 7”-8” in height. Occasionally a white vase turns up.
