Puff Boxes - Part 2

Study of Dugan - Diamond -The Story of Indiana, PA Glass indicates the “collector’s Puff Box” to be a “covered compote”. In essence, it is that, but in appeasing the collector viewpoint, we need to suspend such “correctness” (smile). However, while on that subject, we call your attention to the fact that Diamond’s Puff Box is slightly shorter than similar items made by Northwood and Fenton. Stems and finials on all three types are too much alike to be concerned over.
Whether you choose to call these (or use them as containers for) Jelly, Candy, or Puff Box is entirely your privilege. The Diamond, Fenton, and Northwood boxes are “stretch glass” by proper definition, but many carnival glass collectors cater to some degree of acceptance.

SWIRL RIB:  This stunning covered jar was more than likely created as part of a dresser set, and intended to hold bath powder. However, it just as easily could have been used for candy. It stands 6” tall to the top of the finial and is approximately 4 ½” in diameter at its widest point. As such, the pattern name indicates Imperial as producer. Several other shapes are seen in such a pattern, dating the production to 1927. One significant shape to mention are candlesticks. There is a matching console bowl, center-handled server, mug, a 6” plate in marigold and clambroth, along with 8”-9” plate, bowls in 6” and 9”, creamer and sugar, cup and saucer and a stemmed/footed sherbet found in marigold and clambroth. Unless noted otherwise, the items are found only in marigold, and can be considered quite scarce.

Dean & Diane Fry – 9-10

I have done justice and righteousness; do not leave me to my oppressors.
Be surety for Your servant for good; do not let the proud oppress me.
My eyes fail from seeking Your salvation and Your righteous word.
Deal with Your servant according to Your mercy, and teach me Your statutes.
I am Your servant; give me understanding, that I may know Your testimonies.
It is time for You to act, O Lord, for they have regarded Your law as void.
Therefore I love Your commandments more than gold, yes, than fine gold!
Therefore all Your precepts concerning all things I consider to be right;
 I hate every false way.      (Psalm 119:121-128)
Psalm 119 focuses on the power of the Word of God in the heart of the child of God, approaching the subject from a variety of angles.
The poet exposes the reader to ways in which God’s truth can help us when we are threatened.
How we respond to those situations will dramatically impact our decision either to apply God’s Word or ignore it.
