Riihmaki - Part 6
RIIHIMAKI – Part 6

The Riihimaki glassworks was founded in 1910, in the town of Riihimaki, Finland, by M.A. Kolehmainen and his son A.P. Kolehmainen. They produced domestic glass and container glassware at first, then began making glass bottles and window glass in 1919. Riihimaki became the largest glass factory in Finland following purchase of the Kaukalahti glassworks in 1927.  This brought about a change in name to Riihimaen Lasi Oy in 1937. Aimo Okkolin began designing for Riihimaki that same year. Helena Tynell  joined Riihimaki in 1949, along with Nanny Still. Tamara Aladin joined them in 1959.  Together these four were chief designers for Riihimaki during the next 20 years. A great many popular designs were produced during those years and can still be easily found today.  In 1968 Erkkitapio Siiroinen began designing for Riihimaki as a freelancer. The company was purchased by Ahlstrom in 1985, and merged with Karhula in 1988 under the new name Alhstrom Riihimaen Lasi Oy. In 1990 the Riihimaki factory was closed.

When exploring the present websites displaying production of the years from the 1950s to closing, their taste in “simplified modern” styles is most evident. Obviously, the chief designers mentioned above influenced those trends, which were popular during those years in home and furniture designs, as well.

Dean & Diane Fry – 12 -10

For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure is at hand.
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge,
Will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.
Be diligent to come to me quickly; for Demas has forsaken me, having loved this present world,
and has departed for Thessalonica---Crescens for Galatia, Titus for Dalmatia.
Only Luke is with me. Get Mark and bring him with you, for he is useful to me for ministry.
And Tychicus I have sent to Ephesus. Bring the cloak that I left with Carpus at Troas when you come----
And the books, especially the parchments.
Alexander the coppersmith did me much harm. May the Lord repay him according to his works.
You also must beware of him, for he has greatly resisted our words.
At my first defense no one stood with me, but all forsook me. May it not be charged against them.
But the Lord stood with me and strengthened me, so that the message might be preached fully through me,
And that all the Gentiles might hear. Also I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion.
And the Lord will deliver me from every evil work and preserve me for His heavenly kingdom.
To him be glory forever and ever. Amen!

The Lord Jesus Christ be with your spirit. Grace be with you. Amen.   (2 Timothy 4:6-22)
