Fenton - Part 14
Fenton  KITTENS

Feb. 1919 Butler Bros. Wholesale Catalog
Feb. 1919 Butler Bros. Wholesale Catalog.

This 1919 Butler Bros. Wholesale Catalog Ad confirms the intended use for these small pieces which came to be during the latter part of the carnival glass era. Childrens dish sets were quite prevalent among china manufacturers of that time period, so it follows that Fenton would enter another field of endeavor with their desirable wares!

Webster’s Unabridged Dictionary describes “Miniature” as such:  a copy or model on a very small scale, “in miniature”; on a small scale; greatly reduced. Miniature collectors enjoy these pieces and rightly so, considering the general un-availability of such small specimens in the average pattern.
However, we feel that in the strictest sense of the word, none of the shapes in this pattern fit the category of “miniature”, since there are no larger examples within the pattern offering.

Amethyst could be considered a rare color and certainly blue examples become difficult to locate, along with vaseline and aqua.  Marigold is the dominant color in the pattern. No green Kittens pieces are on record.

Some examples display two sets of Kittens, while others display sets of four Kittens.

*REPRO -- While attending the 2010 ICGA Convention, a couple of collectors reported a Kittens piece advertised as such for sale on eBay. The color is clear-yellow and there is a C marked within the marie.

Dean & Diane Fry – 8-10

Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.
“Honor your father and mother,” which is the first commandment with promise:
“that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.”
And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath,
but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.
Bondservants, be obedient to those who are your masters according to the flesh,
with fear and trembling, in sincerity of heart, as to Christ; not with eyeservice,
as men-pleasers, but as bondservants of Christ,
doing the will of God from the heart.  (Ephesians 6:1-6)
