Imperial Water Sets - Part 3
IMPERIAL WATERSETS - Part 3

Smoke FASHION 8 in. tall.

FASHION:  Indicated as Imperial's #402 ½ in their factory catalogs, it is easily recognized by most collectors. Water sets in marigold are easy to obtain, with smoke examples quite scarce. Purple sets are in the extremely rare category. With their unfailing spectacular color and iridescence, desirability rates them as “treasures” in collections fortunate enough to own them. Carl Burns notes that he can confirm a clambroth and root beer colored tumbler in this pattern. No matching pitchers are known. If you will click on ~~ F ~~ in our pattern alphabet, you can view a lovely purple pitcher and tumbler.

IMPERIAL GRAPE:  Marigold is easily the most available color, but impressive due to their strong, magnificent color! Helios examples are not too difficult either, but when compared to the fewer than half dozen known true emerald green pitchers, the difference in price will quickly determine desirability preference. Purple is another prized color in this pattern, yet without much difficulty to locate. Examples in amber, aqua and smoke are quite rare and the prices reflect that.
Tumblers: The ribbed interior is harder to locate than the plain interior. Marigold, helios,  purple, amber, lavender, smoke, lime green, and aqua are listed in order of availability, descending to rarest, with only one or two tumblers in ice green known. Vaseline tumblers have been reported, but no matching pitcher for that or the lime green and ice green tumblers is verified.

OCTAGON :  Marigold water sets are quite plentiful in this cut pattern. It is easily recognized with at least 23 carnival glass shapes having been documented. Purple water sets are extremely rare! These tankard, or water pitchers stand only 1 ½” taller than the 8” milk pitchers. A yet smaller 6 ½” pitcher is quite scarce in marigold and downright rare in purple. With so little difference in the size of the water and milk pitchers, unless they are together for comparison, it is easily understood that an error in judgment  can be made as to which one is which!
The standard Octagon tumbler rests on a factory-ground base ( no collar base)-called smooth bottom in the Catalog Ad. Only marigold is known in this tumbler.

OCTAGON Variant Tumbler: This version has a distinct collar base and stands about ½” taller than the standard size tumbler. It is not found nearly as often, but marigold examples remain reasonably plentiful. The other colors can present a challenge. This tumbler is very scarce in purple and helios. Very rare examples in aqua and olive are known to exist. Only a couple of smoke and vaseline examples are known. No matching pitchers for these rare colors have been reported, to our knowledge.

ROBIN Water Set
ROBIN Water Set

ROBIN:  Birds and animals were prevalent design topics for Fenton, Northwood and Millersburg. However, Robin water sets and mugs exhibit the  only use of fauna by Imperial. Vintage water sets are only found in marigold. Some smoke tumblers have been reported, but no matching pitcher has turned up thus far. Vintage Robin water sets do not avail themselves to collectors with any regularity, yet they do not command the high prices which some other more available sets do.
Both water sets and the handled mugs were extensively reproduced during the 1960s and 1970s in colors to include marigold, smoke, white, red, and ice blue. The IG or LIG trademark should be visible on these pieces.

Dean & Diane Fry  - 11/08

Deal bountifully with Your servant, that I may live and keep Your Word.
Open my eyes, that I may see wondrous things from Your law.
I am a stranger in the earth; do not hide Your commandments from me.
My soul breaks with longing for Your judgments at all times.
You rebuke the proud---the cursed, who stray from Your commandments.
Remove from me reproach and contempt, for I have kept Your testimonies.
Princes also sit and speak against me, but Your servant meditates on Your statutes. Your testimonies also are my delight and my counselors.
~~~~~~~~~ ( Psalm 119:17-24)
Psalm 119 is the centerpiece of the Bible, and its longest chapter.
The theme of Psalm 119 is the authority and character of God's Word.
It is divided into stanzas and each stanza begins with successive letters of the Hebrew alphabet. Having 176 verses, this song (psalm) is longer than a number of other Bible books in their entirety.
