ENGRAVED GRAPE Juice Set:  This unusual set was included in a box lot sold at a John Woody Auction in Wichita, KS in the Spring of 2006. Many such “obscure” items seldom seen were photographed that day. The collection had been a long time in the “making” and from a time period in history when carnival glass was collected for its curiosity and enjoyment, rather than “it's monetary value”!
The pitcher stands 8 ½” high with a base of 3 5/8” diameter. Tumbler stands 3 ½” tall, with a base diameter  of 1 ¾”. Coloring is a light marigold, not flashed. Since Fenton is known to have used this design, we attribute the juice set to their manufacture. We have never seen this pattern offered with other than marigold finish. Should any of you have information to the contrary, we would appreciate hearing from you.

ENGRAVED GRAPE Wine Glasses:  Seldom seen, but are of the same pale marigold iridescence - not flashed on, as found on the Juice Set in this same design. Water tumblers, tumble-up, vases, candy jars and small pitchers are known in this pattern. The pattern is achieved from etching the glass.

STARFLOWER Pitcher:  This lovely green pitcher appeared for sale on eBay in early Aug. 2006. One of our thoughtful carnival glass auctioneers contacted her with some information as to its extreme rarity. The seller then went into our 101 site for some further information and study into the subject, contacting us for some clarification about selling the piece. She declared our educational site to be “awesome”, although she is not a collector, saying she had  agreed to sell the pitcher for a friend who had had it stored in the basement for sometime, deciding to “get rid of it”!
Neither of them realized that this color had never been seen before. It is not listed in any of the carnival glass books written over the years. “Sally” agreed to allow us the privilege of displaying this extreme rarity.
Clicking on ~~S~~ in our Alphabet Pattern Index on the homepage will take you to view the blue and marigold examples in this very scarce pitcher for which no tumblers have ever been found.

LEAF TIERS in Blue

LEAF TIERS:  A pattern somewhat difficult to locate, leading us to believe that production did not create large quantity. Berry sets, table sets and water sets are the known shapes within the pattern. The twig feet are akin to those used by Northwood on Leaf and Beads rose bowls. Leaf Tiers water sets are seen in marigold, purple, green and blue .

BUTTERFLY and BERRY:  A primary design found on an array of shapes to include footed berry sets, table sets, water sets, a hatpin holder, vases, spittoon whimsey and rare footed whimsey called a fernery. This was formed by turning in the edges of the large berry bowl to slightly resemble a rose bowl shape. Marigold, cobalt blue, green, amethyst, white and an occasional red comprise the color range.  This was a popular design and enjoyed a long production run as seen in the two accompanying ads.

FENTONIA:  An interesting all-over diamond design with the familiar scale fillers found on other Fenton patterns, along with a pretty “embroidery stitch”. Seldom offered  for sale in berry sets, table sets or the water sets, marigold and blue surface occasionally. Green and amethyst examples are much more elusive.

Pray for one another. ~~ James 5:16

Prayer is a conversation with God, not a formula. However, five-finger prayers might be used as a “method” to freshen up our prayer time.

Design created by Rudy Kovacs
Design created by Rudy Kovacs

*When you fold your hands, the thumb is nearest you. Begin by praying for those closest to you-your loved ones (Philippians1:3-5).
*The index finger is the pointer. Pray for those who teach-(1Thessalonians 5:25).
*The next finger is the tallest. It should remind you to pray for those in authority over you---national and local leaders (1 Timothy   2:1-2).
* The fourth finger, usually the weakest should be used to pray for those who are in trouble or who are suffering (James 5:13-16).
*Then comes your little finger, reminding you of your smallness in relation to the greatness of God. Ask Him to supply your needs (Phillippians 4:6,19).

Our prayers ascend to God's throne in heaven, regardless of the “method” we use. The condition of our heart matters more than the words we pray.
