BOWLS, 8”-9”:  Whether there are more bowls or more plates in this pattern would be difficult to determine, for it does seem that the examples are numerous in auctions, malls, etc. Apparently the market readily accepted a wide range of colors and shapes over a long production period. That fact is emphatically stated with the abundance of examples which remain available to collectors today. This great old pattern from Fenton was produced in more than a dozen colors and more than double that number in shapes. More than 100 examples sell each year at carnival glass auctions. The pattern is alive and well! Concentration on this pattern alone, would create a tremendous collection.

Amber, amberina, amethyst, blue, celeste, clambroth, green, lavender, marigold, marigold over moonstone, red and white is the color range, any of which lend themselves to ruffling, or  three and one edge treatments.

ORANGE TREE is utilized as an exterior pattern for CHERRY CHAIN plates and bowls, along with ROSE TREE bowls.

BOWLS , 8”-9” with TREE TRUNK center:  are found in amethyst, clambroth, blue, green, ice green, marigold and white.

These examples have a trunk design which extends into the center of the plate or bowl. This is a feature which many look for and desire when in the market for the Orange Tree pattern. The marigold and ice green examples we display have that type center design.

The exterior pattern on bowls and plates is called BEARDED BERRY.

ORANGE TREE SPITTOON - marigold
ORANGE TREE SPITTOON - marigold

ORANGE TREE SPITTOON: formed from the base of a Marigold powder jar. This was an Ebay item purchased by Jim and Bette Chapman a few years ago. Seems it started from a low reserve and quickly escalated to a “super power” as other bidders joined the excitement! Upon winning the bid, this message was received from the seller: “Congratulations upon your winning bid! … WHAT IS IT?”  The item had been sitting on a shop shelf in Ohio for sometime, with no interest displayed in it! (Surely no self-respecting carnival glass collector would have passed this up!)

ORANGE TREE LOVING CUP-only one known in Peach Opal.
ORANGE TREE LOVING CUP-only one known in Peach Opal.

ORANGE TREE LOVING CUP: in Peach Opal is the only one known. It was in the Whitley collection for a number of years and sold during a HOACGA Convention auction to Jim and Bette Chapman. The Peacock Tail interior lends interest to this rare specimen.

Dean and Diane Fry 9/2005
The balance of divine empowerment and human responsibility
is a central theme of the Bible. Paul wrote,
“Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling;
for it is God who works in you both to will
and to do for His good pleasure” (Philippians 2:12-13)

“Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom,
teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs,
singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord” (Colossians 3:16)
