PHOTOS OF FOSTORIA FACTORY TAKEN AT THE SITE ON APRIL 15, 2004

Should you be looking for an opportunity to begin a new business: This derelict factory is available for a $1. investment. All you need to do: settle $750,000 back taxes, satisfy the rulings placed against the site by the EPA, along with a few other “incidentals”………..and…woo-LAH! You could be in business.

Seriously, the building is scheduled for demolition later this year. The photos do not illustrate the vast complexities of these buildings! Corning Glass, as it exists in Parkersburg, WV (our hometown), along with the present Fenton Glass Co., would easily fit into a small corner of this layout…………Each of these photos is a different part of that factory, and since the entire complex is within a fenced area, we could not take pictures of the interior buildings on the property. There are several acres covered with buildings under the heading of “former Fostoria Factory”. It is much larger than any of the other glass making concerns associated with iridized carnival glass. Considering the era and time of its booming business, employees must have numbered in the hundreds!

The most amazing aspect of our visit to this property and that of viewing the display within the Fostoria  Glass Museum: There are three floors in this very nicely restored Victorian house which contain cases full of Fostoria glassware, but no more than half dozen of those are iridized examples! Norene Andrietta has donated a lovely large white iridized bowl in a pattern we did not recognize. There is an ice bucket in blue Brocaded Acorn, a lovely white console set (center bowl and candlesticks) in Brocaded Summer Garden pattern, a Brocaded Palm piece. None of these are marked with our Carnival Glass reference names. For whatever the reason, the members of the Society who were hosting that day, have not felt the importance of doing so. No pictures can be taken inside the Museum. It would have been nice to make a picture to show you of the aerial view of the factory. Unbelievable in size!

The Museum is open to donation, certainly, should any of you care to contribute something. Your name would be placed on the identification card beside the piece(s), as we noted with the piece from Noreen. The Museum is located at the corner of 6th and Tomlinson. Moundsville, WV.
